This is actually one of the biggest problems with trying to abolish tipping. Many customers, myself among them, actually like tipping — prefer it, even — so that no matter how politely it’s declined, it’s to some extent off-putting. I’ve been a bartender for over two decades now, and I can tell you almost for certain at this point: abolishing the tipping system is fraught with too many difficulties to overcome.
